Looting & The Preservation Of Pre-columbian
Gold & Metals
Looting
Unfortunately, a majority of
Ancient America's history has been looted and plundered over the last
four
centuries (and by native Huaqueros even before). With increased agriculture, has come clearing of the land,
and the discovery of new sites. Until about 1950's, the governments of
Latin America made
little effort to retain their country's heritage. Even after, the trade
in Pre-Columbian artifacts remains rampant and is a serious
business. This leaves few means of seeing these pieces, except when
they are sold by art dealers and brokers around the world! Looting, and the trade in plundered
artifacts must end!
Four lost wax castings of frogs and avian
creatures in original looted condition Costa Rica - exact site(s) unknown - Era 500-1300 CE - Base gold - Sizes 1.5

Unique pieces - Now in a Private collection
If you want to buy a Prehispanic
artifact, demand the provenience of the piece, including a statement
certifying the the piece is legally permitted. You can contact the
embassy of the country of origin for more information about this. Do
your home work, and you avoid being a participant in the trafficking of
looted artifacts.
